It's finally here...a chocolate bar that tastes great, is sugar free and helps you lose weight! It's called ChocoPerfection!!! These low-carb, sugar-free, chocolate bars are the creation of Mary Jo Kringas who found that most low-carb chocolate bars sabotaged her own weight loss because they contain maltitol, a sugar alcohol that upsets most stomachs and has a high glycemic. She invented a maltitol-free chocolate bar using oligofructose. Oligofructose is an oligosaccharide, a type of sugar molecule with several branches. Oligosaccharides are, for the most part, not digested in the small intestine, therefore they add very little to blood glucose. However, they are broken down via fermentation in the large intestine where they can contribute to the health of the colon (for this reason, they are sometimes called prebiotics).
Oligofructose is 30-50% as sweet as sucrose (table sugar). It also behaves similarly to sugar in some food products. It occurs naturally in some plants. Most of the oligofructose used as an ingredient is extracted from chicory root. Mary Jo successfully lost an additional 75 pounds eating 3 of these chocolate bars a day...now that's music to dieter's ears!!!
